Snow Day

The 12 of January, it snowed.

Now I know some places have snow and it's all like so normal and casual and this is just so 'everyday'..... well, in England as soon as someone sees a snowflake the country seems to grind to a halt.

Snowmen were built, paths were cleared and gloves thawed out afterwards.

Run 2 - Sunday Jan 8 2017

Total distance so far this year: 16.36 km

Added 9.32km today, and feeling the lack of exercise over the past few weeks. The lingering after effects and exertion yesterday meant I had to dig deep.

The routes I run are in and around Royal Tunbridge Wells, and flat it is not. Situated in the North Downs in Kent you'll find that any direction you go is either uphill or down. There do seem to be an awful lot of ups compared to the downs.

Today's run started like yesterday, but after heading out of Dunorlan Park, turned out of town and headed out along Forest Road before dropping down past the Nevill Cricket Grounds ending up near the Panties. Then a climb back through town followed by the final kilometre descent back to base.

First run of the year - Saturday 7 Jan 2017

Total distance so far this year: 7.04 km.

A new year, so reset the totals, dust off the running shoes, commit to your new year's resolution and get out there.

After a couple of weeks off a fairly decent 7.04 km covered.

I'm never one to worry about time, but this was slow.

Start with a 2 km climb, through Dunorlan Park, along the boating lake, gradual climb out to the main road, then flat through town, continue a slight downward slope heading Northwards and finally the last kilometre downhill.

Delay - Lingering Cold and Cough

Seriously!!!

I recon I was only mildly ill last year and then I start this year off with an absolute doozy. I've been tucked up in bed for the past few days, most unlike me, dosed up to the eyeballs with over the counter medication.

A couple of years ago I ran in a 10k and knew I wasn't well at the start. I had the classic runny nose and clogged up head of a cold. Well, long story short, I completed the run, which was the goal anyway, went home, and lay down for 5 minutes and woke up in the evening feeling like I'd been run over repeatedly.

The moral of the tale: Don't run if you're not feeling well.

The Long Road (To Run)

I was supposed to be starting out all bright eyed and bushy tailed, but here I am tucked up in bed with a monster chest cold. Nose is running, and I'm hacking up phlegm (lovely, just what you wanted to hear).

So back to the real world. (blows nose and coughs)

This year I intend to take part in 4-5 half-marathons and a couple of 10k runs. Well that's the New Year's Resolution. I'm not one of those people who flies around the streets, I'm more of a plodder, think more Tortoise less Hare, but the principle's the same, I'll get to the finish eventually. The goal is to finish and not damage yourself in the process.

The first is in 7 weeks (gulp) and I know what recovery is like after a heavy cold.

Keep you updated.
